Repoussé Bowl Base Eastern Tibet 18th century or earlier Silver (172 gm) D: 8.5 in x H: 2 in :: 21.5 cm x 5 cm A fascinating object with early Central Asian inspiration. Once the decorative cover for the under portion of a wood turned bowl, the silver base is embossed in repoussé technique. Naively rendered with primitive interpretations of animals associated with the zodiac. Each animal is contained within a cartouche surrounded by jewels. At the base is an elephant carrying the three precious gems (Triratna) surrounded by the Eight Auspicious Symbols (Ashtamangala). Price on request
