Lime Containers Timor, Indonesia Bamboo, bone, and two coins Early 20th century 5.5” (14 cm) to 7” (18 cm) tall These intricately carved and perfectly fit bamboo containers were made to hold lime powder for the preparation and chewing of the betel nut quid. Betel chewing was an important and wide spread practice throughout Indonesia and South East Asia. The light colored and most modern container has a Dutch coin from 1945 on each end. The other three are darker and older with bone plaques in each end. They all have a good patina from age and use. Set of four $750
