Neckrest Sawos/Arapesh Culture & People, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea H 8″ x W 6.75 x L 24.5″ 20cm x 17.4cm x 62.2cm Early 20th Century Carved wood with legs of bamboo; original native pigments of red/pink and blue-with-German-bluing. Provenance: Collected in situ in New Guinea by the noted field collector and Australian Regional Officer Bruce’s Lawes. The Northern California collector Frealon Bibbins acquired it from SFTribal Dealer Erik Farrow in 2002. Exhibited in 1971 in the Oakland Museum Oceanic Show and cataloged (and stamped but not pictured). $4500
