Man with His Prized Rooster Bali, Indonesia Ca. 1910-1920’s Wood, grass H: 9 in :: 23 cm A beautiful figure of a Balinese man petting his prized rooster whose feathers are draped over one arm. The tender relationship between them is exceptional. This statue was crafted by a master trained in the style of the late 19th century. The scalp plugs were filled with bristly grass (ujok) that was used to simulate hair.Carved soon after the Dutch occupation of South Bali, post 1908, there is one other similar example extant that is comparable to this one. It was collected around 1915 and deposited in the Leiden Museum. SOLD
