Cheppu, Protective Deity                                                                     Sino-Tibet                                   Ca. 19th century Silk brocade with metallic threads                      51 in x 55 in :: 129.5 cm x 140 cm A 19th century Chinese silk brocade textile depicting the head of Cheppu, a Buddhist protective deity popular in the Kathmandu Valley and Tibet. Woven in China, it was most probably made as a gift for a Tibetan Buddhist hierarch. It has rich colors typical of the period.Overall good condition, showing characteristic wear to metallic thread, some minor stains and slight color run. SOLD
